La musique de réveil : « Je ne regrette rien » (Edith Piaf)

Ce morceau d’Edith Piaf est utilisé à chaque fois comme musique de réveil afin d’alerter les personnes impliquées dans un rêve commun que l’effet du sédatif va bientôt prendre fin, et qu’ils vont se réveiller.

Lorsque cette musique est diffusée dans les oreilles de la personne qui fait le rêve, elle est entendue déformée et ralentie dans le niveau du rêve. La déformation est un impact physique entre rêve et réalité du au fait que lorsque l’on rêve, les sons que l’on perçoit sont étouffés par notre état de sommeil. Le ralentissement quant à lui s’explique très logiquement par la différence d’écoulement du temps entre rêve et réalité (le temps perçu dans un rêve est beaucoup plus long que le temps de la réalité, donc la musique est perçue au ralenti dans le rêve).

Voici pour les faits objectifs de l’utilisation de cette musique pendant le film… mais allons un petit peu plus loin dans l’analyse.

Le premier point est la symbolique forte des paroles de la chanson lorsqu’on les met en parallèle avec l’histoire racontée par le film.

Comme vous l’avez compris au visionnage du film et/ou suite à la lecture d’articles de ce blog, le sujet principal du film n’est finalement pas l’opération d’inception sur Fischer Jr, mais le parcours intérieur d’un homme, Dom Cobb, qui lutte contre lui-même et ses regrets de se sentir responsable de la mort de sa femme, qu’il n’arrive pas à oublier et qui le hante, l’empêchant de poursuivre une vie normale.

Quelle que soit l’interprétation retenue pour explique le film, on voit qu’à la fin, suite à leur discussion dans le niveau N-4 de rêve (les limbes), Dom fait le deuil de sa femme lorsqu’il décide de ne pas rester avec elle dans les limbes. Il lui dit alors qu’il sait qu’elle n’est pas réelle et qu’il ne la retrouvera jamais, qu’elle est juste une de ses projections dont il n’arrive pas à se défaire…

La symbolique de la musique de réveil est alors évidente : « Je ne regrette rien ». Les paroles de cette musique disent à Dom Cobb de ne rien regretter, de laisser de côté son obsession sur la mort de sa femme, et d’avancer dans sa vie sans elle.

Par contre, pour ce qui est de savoir si cette utilisation est juste symbolique par rapport à la thématique de l’histoire du film ou si il faut y voir un indice pour accréditer une des interprétations pro-rêve du film… à vous de voir ! On pourrait en effet dire que si tout le film est un rêve, alors cette musique serait une projection (générée par son propre subconscient ou celui d’une personne essayant de lui faire une inception, au choix !), une sorte de message subliminal signifiant à Dom Cobb « de ne rien regretter » et d’oublier sa femme… tordu quand même !  ;-p

Le second point est que une des musiques composée par Hans Zimmer et utilisée dans le film pour « faire monter la pression » et souligner des moments de suspense ressemble fortement à cette chanson d’Edith Piaf « Je ne regrette rien » :

Cette ambiance musicale pesante est d’ailleurs largement utilisée lors de la décharge finale, quand tout le monde va se réveiller simultanément pour remonter les différentes strates de rêve… ce qui colle bien au thème du « réveil » des personnages.

On pourrait aussi aller plus loin et commencer à retrouver tous les moments où cette musique est utilisée et se dire que lorsqu’on l’entend, c’est que le personnage est symboliquement en train de rêver. Il me semble que cette musique est celle qui clôt le film, et c’est la dernière que l’on entend juste avant la coupure du générique… ce qui va également dans le sens des théories pro-rêve. Mais j’accorde peu de crédit à cela, et ce n’est à mon avis pas un indice sérieux.

L’utilisation de cette musique sur ce thème est par contre plus clair et bien trouvé dans son utilisation à la toute fin du générique. En effet, la musique qui termine le générique du film est « Je ne regrette rien » d’Edith Piaf, dans sa version originale. Mais les dernières secondes de la musique se transforment petit à petit en celle de Hans Zimmer (comme dans la vidéo ci-dessus), avant la coupure totale du générique du film. J’interprète cela comme un clin d’oeil de Nolan symbolique disant « Le film Inception est terminé, il vous a embarqué dans un monde de rêve (c’est la magie du cinéma), mais c’est maintenant terminé, il faut vous réveiller et revenir à la réalité ! ». et d’ailleurs en sortant du film, on se pose fatalement la question « Merde… et si j’étais finalement en train de rêver tout cela et que j’étais encore en train de rêver que je suis allé un film où il est possible de se faire dérober des informations dans ses rêves ? ». Bien marrant ! :D
