Robert Fisher Jr (Cillian Murphy)
Robert Fisher Jr est la victime, « la cible » de l’inception tentée Dom Cobb et l’équipe qu’il a formée dans ce but.
Il est l’héritier d’une énorme multinationale de l’énergie, Fischer Morrow, tenue d’une main de fer par son père, Maurice Fisher Senior, sur le point de mourir.
Les rapports de Robert avec son père sont très compliqués et tendus. En effet, Maurice Fischer n’a jamais eu de considérations pour son fils, le considérant indigne de prendre sa succession à la tête de l’empire familial. Il n’a jamais été un père présent, ni aimant.
Cette relation père / fils inexistante attriste beaucoup Robert, qui n’a jamais eu l’amour espéré en provenance de son père. Fischer Senior prendra d’ailleurs la peine d’appeler son fils à son chevet une dernière fois juste avant de mourir pour lui dire un dernier mot, qui résonnera froidement dans le coeur de Robert Fischer et finira de le blesser profondément : « déception ».
Robert est par contre beaucoup plus proche de son parrain, Peter Browning, le bras droit et fidèle conseiller de son père. Il est pour lui en quelque sorte son père de substitution, celui qu’il aurait préféré avoir et qui lui apporte un peu d’affection et d’écoute. Robert l’appelle d’ailleurs affectueusement « Oncle Peter ».
Saito, un autre homme d’affaires très puissant, et principal concurrent de Fischer Morrow, voudrait bien se débarrasser de ce concurrent et profiter de la mort du patriarche pour détruire son entreprise, par le biais de son maillon faible, Fischer Jr, qui va hériter de cet empire.
C’est la raison pour laquelle il recrute Cobb et son équipe d’extracteurs afin qu’ils réalisent une inception sur Fischer Jr et implantent dans son subconscient l’idée qu’il doit démanteler l’empire de son père…
